Mowgli Street Food is set to open its first Nottingham site this coming July. It will open its doors in the foodie fantastic Hockley area in a few weeks, hot on the heels of the Indian Street Food restaurant’s launch in Oxford back in March.
"The building is exactly what I am eternally attracted to. It is what I call “very Mowgli” says founder and Indian Food writer Nisha Katona. " We have many followers in Nottingham who are calling for the smash and grab of the Mowgli home kitchen. We are not everyone’s cup of tea, but we go where our consumers and followers want us. I still always immediately fall for something or hate it within two minutes. Nottingham, we fell for you big-time.”
Mowgli, founded by barrister and food writer Nisha Katona in 2014, currently operates two sites in its home city of Liverpool and one each in Manchester, Birmingham, and Oxford. Nottingham is one of the new cities, along with Leeds, a second venue in Manchester and London. In July last year, the company secured £3.45m in expansion funding from independent infrastructure, private equity and investment manager Foresight Group, which brought experienced leisure sector executive Karen Jones on board as chairman.
Katona said: “Nottingham is a vibrant and cosmopolitan city with a great food and drink sector. We hope diners will love Mowgli's passion for healthy, fresh Indian food. The menu is entirely comprised of dishes from my family’s recipes. I take curry virgin chefs on principle and teach them one on one in the ancient Hindu culinary philosophy. It is utterly humbling that Mowgli has found a place in the heart of the nation.”
