After over two years of taste-testing, market research and planning, PLANT is finally ready to open its doors to the public. The first of its kind in the East Midlands, this 100% plant-based café and bar features three floors and can be found at 34-35 Sadler Gate, Derby DE1 3NR.
The café offers a seasonal menu unlike anything seen in Derby, with breakfast and lunch options alongside smoothies, desserts and drinks. Every three months the menu will be updated, allowing the opportunity to utilise local seasonal produce. The menu is kept small to reduce food waste and to ensure a better service is provided. The majority of the menu can be made gluten-free, and all staff are trained in allergen awareness. The organic coffee is triple-certified, meaning it has been accredited by Fairtrade, the Soil Association and UTZ, and won a Great Taste award in 2018.
The bar boasts a handcrafted, nature-inspired cocktail menu as well as a selection of vegan craft beers and ciders. PLANT has partnered with local distilleries and breweries including White Peak in Ambergate and Shiny in Little Eaton, in an effort to reduce carbon emissions and support Derbyshire businesses. Also stocked is a selection of ciders by Hogan’s, a Warwickshire-based crafter that uses 100% English cider apples.
PLANT is dedicated to being at the forefront of radical change within the hospitality industry in response to the climate emergency. Every business decision is made with its ecological footprint in mind. From its 100% recycled toilet paper to drinking straws made from PLA, a plant-based plastic alternative, you can be assured that PLANT is doing everything in its power to increase sustainability. Their environmental policy, and other information, is available to view on their website.
PLANT opens on Saturday 23rd November, please visit our Facebook page for details.
