Derby Brewing Company is set to take over The Pig and Truffle on Tamworth Street in Lichfield.
The Tudor pub has had several owners in recent memory but is now embarking on a new era under the expert ownership of Derby Brewing Company. The established brewery and venue operator is making its first venture into Staffordshire to breath new life into this historic building.
Derby Brewing Company was launched in 2004 by Trevor Harris, following thirty years of brewing and pub management experience. The company brews modern and traditional ale and craft beer from it’s brewery on Nottingham Road in Derby which is supplied to pubs, bars, restaurant, shops and supermarkets all across the UK. Their beers consistently win prestigious regional and national awards, with ten of their current core beer range boasting awards.
The day to day running of the company is now lead by Trevor’s son and daughter in law Paul and Leanne Harris. As well as the brewery Derby Brewing Company currently runs five venues within the Derby area: The Tap on Derwent Street; The Greyhound on Friar Gate; The Queen’s Head at Little Eaton; The Kedleston Country House wedding and event venue; and the newest venture opening soon, The Hole in the Wall micropub in Mickleover.
This is the first Derby Brewing Company venue in Staffordshire, managing director Paul Harris says, “Lichfield has been a target city for us for some time and we are delighted to have secured The Pig and Truffle. We believe it’s a pub with huge potential and we’re looking forward to breathing a new lease of life into it. Each of our pubs has its own individual style and we’re excited to add another to our growing portfolio. We’re also thrilled to be able to showcase our fantastic range of award winning beers in Lichfield!”
The name will be changed from ‘The Pig and Truffle’ to simply, ‘The Pig’ to emphasise the change in ownership and development of the brand.
The renovation project will begin in the new year, with the team exposing brickwork, sandblasting beams, installing a new shop front window and extending the beer garden at the rear. The look and feel will introduce fresh elements to complement the splendid original Tudor features of the building.
As is an established trend on all Derby Brewing Company venues, the pub will offer an extensive range of real ales, craft beers, wines and artisan spirits. The pub will serve a high quality homemade pub classics menu including DBC beer battered fish and chips and mouth watering burgers, enhanced by a feature range of pork dishes showcasing produce from local suppliers. This would include freshly made sausage rolls, scotch eggs, pork scratchings, pulled pork, sausages, hog roasts and much more.
Director of Brewing Trevor Harris says, “we love breathing fresh life into great old pubs and The Pig and Truffle is well worth saving. We can’t wait to get the beer flowing again. 2019 will be an exciting year for us with opening new venues as well as developing our beer range. We look forward to welcoming the residents and visitors of Lichfield to The Pig and hope you enjoy it!”
