A Stay At The Rock Mill Luxury Holiday Apartments, Stoney Middleton

Located in the stunning landscape of Stoney Middleton is the equally impressive stone building that is Rock Mill Luxury Holiday Apartments. A very short distance down the road is The Cupola Visitor Centre and Café which, if you’re not familiar with all the activities to do in the area, has some handy leaflets and books about walking routes for you to purchase.

The car park is more than ample and has spaces for disabled vehicles and charging points for Electric cars, too. If you’ve brought along your cycles, you can rest easy in the knowledge that they can be securely stowed in the CCTV-monitored cycle store. The bike ‘shed’ is accessed with a fob that is attached to your room key, so you literally just have to tap the sensor to gain entry. There is a handy cycle wash station outside of the building, so you can clear off any mud and grit before you wheel your bike inside and stand it in one of the upright frames until it’s needed next.

Having cleaned your cycles, you can walk across to the boot wash area to see to your own needs. The washing station is on the side of a dedicated room that is attached to the side of the Rock Mill Apartment building. Having washed either your cleats or hiking boots, walk inside; here, there are heated lockers to pop them in to dry out overnight; pretty swish, I think you’d agree?

If you’ve brought your canine companions along, the dog wash area has a salon-worthy bath and shampoo. Some folks prefer to dry their dogs off with towels, but there is a dryer attached to the bath for those pups that go to the groomers regularly and are used to this method of drying. There’s a jar of treats to reward your furry friend with as well, if they’ve [literally!] gone the extra mile that day.

Located on the side of this locker/dog wash building are rows of key-safes that contain your apartment key; you will have been sent the code to unlock the one for your room with your booking, so simply pop the numbers in, ping your fob on the door to the side, and head up to your apartment.

The accommodation is located over 4 floors and there’s a lift available for the upper levels – you could climb up the stairs if you wanted, but me and The Man were shattered after our walks so took the easy option! There’s also a front, main entrance to Rock Mill with a [not 24/7] concierge who will happily assist you with enquiries. The reception area is very smart, set out with seating and tables; perfect for deciding on your days’ activities or waiting for other members of your group to assemble together.

We were lucky to be given access to several types of apartments that cater for differing size parties; from couples, families or groups of friends, everyone will find accommodation to meet their needs at Rock Mill. Having made our way up to the third floor, it was time to open the door and discover where we were staying…The doors of all the apartments are solid, sturdy wood affairs with trendy, matte black handles, as are all the interior doors.

As we entered the apartment, on our right was a smartly kitted out, pale grey kitchen area, complete with cooking hob, oven/microwave combo, fridge, sink, toaster and kettle. Above here were plenty of cupboards stocked with cups, glasses and crockery; right at the end were drawers of cutlery and the hostess jar was crammed with teas, coffees and sugar/sweetener. A quick shufty in the fridge itself revealed plenty of milk cartons; that was me sorted for a cuppa, then. To the left of the entry door was a [boiler] cupboard that had hooks for hanging coats on, and an ironing board and iron as well. Just to the side of the cupboard was a pale grey, marble-effect, circular table and padded mid-back chairs; the perfect place to unwind and relax over a home-cooked dinner…or better still, a Pizza from The Cupola Kitchen!

At the far end of the dining/living area was a flat-screen TV and an L-shaped sofa bed that pulls out to double bed size if there are more than 2 guests staying in this apartment. I should just mention that all the sofas in Rock Mill’s apartments pull out to make extra sleeping space. Plenty of scatter cushions added a homely feel to this corner of the room, and we settled down to watch a spot of telly whilst we had a hot drink.

Between the dining table and the TV corner was the door leading to the double bedroom and ensuite, and we were very happy with the size and standard of our accommodation for the night. The dominant feature was the bed itself that was covered in a self-stripe, white duvet and topped with a stone-toned, knitted throw and co-ord cushions. Our towels had been carefully rolled and arranged neatly on each side of the bed, and they were nice, fluffy ones. A mirrored wardrobe had plenty of hangers in it and lots of space – handy if you’ve got a partner like mine who thinks he’s packing for a month away, not a single night! A desk/dressing table was located underneath the window, so plenty of natural light in the day for doing hair/make-up/writing.

A door off to the side of the bedroom led into the ensuite shower room, complete with a striking waterfall-head shower! The triple drawer vanity unit houses the hair-dryer, so you don’t need to pack one of those on your visit to Rock Mill Luxury Holiday Apartments. Modern fittings in matte black contrasted with the pale stone tiled floor and walls in the ensuite, with a touch of warmth coming from the wooden ‘mat’ at the shower door. Like the plonker I am (!), I’d forgotten my shower gel and didn’t fancy using his Nibs’ Lynx; thankfully, the handwash in the sleek black dispenser at the sink was up to the task of cleansing my hair and body without leaving either stripped of oil and squeaky clean.

Unlike most of the venues we visit, the room was at a slumber-friendly temperature, thanks to nifty controls on the radiators that allowed us to set the optimum environment in both areas of our apartment. Seriously, this team have thought of everything to ensure you have a great stay with them, whatever you get up to! Hot Wings awarded without hesitation to the Rock Mill Luxury Holiday Apartments in Stoney Middleton.
