Stand-up Milton Jones set to bring the laughs to Annie's Burger Shack this autumn

Stand-up king of the one-liners Milton Jones is set to appear in Derby as part of a new season of comedy which is being launched at Annie’s Burger Shack this autumn.

The venue, in Friary Street, will welcome Milton, a regular on BBC Radio Four’s I’m Sorry I Haven’t A Clue and a familiar face on BBC One’s Mock The Week, on October 1 as part of a calendar of comedy nights being held in association with UK comedy club Just The Tonic

The new shows follow previous comedy nights at Annie’s starring Jason Manford, Reginald D Hunter and Alex Lowe’s alter ego Clinton Baptiste, the disastrous medium from Peter Kay’s Phoenix Nights, who appeared at Annie’s for two sell-out show earlier this month.

Among the acts lined up for later in the year are up-and-coming comic Scott Bennett, Karen Bayley, Gavin Webster and Nina Gilligan, who will be appearing at Annie’s regularly throughout autumn, culminating with a Christmas show in December.

The Clinton Baptiste show was the latest in a series of events hosted by Annie’s this year in order
to give its building, a Grade-II listed former church, an alternative use. Other events have included live wrestling, live drag bingo, music, including a gig from Welsh comedy hip-hop group Goldie Lookin’ Chain, and a children’s bouncy castle.

Annie said: “Our last few events have been extremely successful with the Derby public and we’re confident that a gig featuring Milton Jones alongside a line-up of up-and-coming comedy talent will follow suit.

“Just The Tonic has an excellent reputation when it comes to the quality of stand-ups at its shows so we’re looking forward to it bringing the talent, while we serve the burgers.”

Founded in Nottingham in 2009, Annie’s Burger Shack opened its doors to its Derby restaurant, which is based in a restored former First Church of Christ Scientist building in 2018.

Its elaborate burgers, which come complete with names such as the Elvis burger, the North Carolina and the Lemmy, has helped it to build up a loyal following in the city, with all of its burgers available in vegan, veggie and meaty.
