Amber Valley Wines are pleased to announce the release & launch of their first ever vintage from their Derbyshire vineyard near Wessington.
The company was set up by Duncan Mercer & Barry Lewis 4 years ago with planting commencing in April 2012 in deep snow.
Following the first harvest in October and November of 2014, the wine was made at Three Choirs Winery in Gloucestershire, by top winemaker Martin Fowkes. In March this year Duncan & Barry tasted the base wine, made adjustments and another month of maturation took place. Bottling took place on Tuesday 12th May 2015.
Two blended wines have been produced this year a still white wine and a still pink. Pink because this is English wine.
Lindway White - A delicious off-dry blend, light & aromatic on the nose with a well-balanced finish. Perfect chilled with fish, chicken or pasta.
Lindway Pink - Smooth rounded flavours with the gentle summery aroma of crushed red berries. An off-dry fruity finish makes this a great wine for any occasion.
The name Lindway from both wines comes from the Lindway Lakes at the bottom of the Vineyard.
Barry said “These lakes saved the first harvest last year when a late frost struck in May 2014, frost can burn off the buds of vines & reduce the fruit – bodies of water naturally absorb heat during the day and then release it during the night - this natural process helped keep the vines just above freezing in the vineyard and so the buds & subsequently the fruit was saved.”
Duncan added “This moment is the culmination of 4 years hard work not only from Barry & myself but from numerous local volunteers that offered up their time for free to help get us to where we are now, from this point on we intend to grow and make award winning wines that Derbyshire can be proud of.”Also these items are now selling on Waitrose Wine.
The wines are now available to buy online via the Amber Valley Wines website www.ambervalleywines.co.uk & several local farm shops in Derbyshire.
The wines were officially launched at the Derbyshire Food & Drink Festival held at Kedleston Hall, where Amber Valley Wines were running the onsite bar with Derventio Brewery and the wines were first on sale.
