Not gonna lie; you wouldn’t put me and Darts in the same sentence; we are not natural bedfellows, to put it mildly! However, me and The Man are always up for something new so when Katie at Lost City Adventure Golf in Nottingham contacted us to invite us over for Cocktails and [brand new to them] Interactive Darts, we jumped at the chance.
His Nibs stuck a cheeky annual leave day in from his day job - so we also went for Afternoon Tea beforehand, but that’s another blog entry – which influenced our decision to hop on the train over to Nottingham. We also managed to have a quick mooch around the Christmas Market and Fair whilst we walked over to the Cornerhouse where Lost City is located.
I love descending the stairs down into Lost City, you really do feel that you’re an explorer who’s discovered a hidden place. The décor, and sound and lighting effects, further enhance this feeling as you venture further into the belly of the beast, so to speak!
Katie and Finley had made sure that everything was set up for this invite-only evening…starting with the Lei/flower garland; I grabbed a very pretty yellow-and-white one, The Man had blue. There was a nifty drinks station laden with sample cups of the new ‘Candy Store’ range of Cocktails and, given the rainbow of colours to choose from, I didn’t know where to start!
I had the Peach Ring minx first (complete with fizzy Peach Ring sweet – yum!) and The Man had a Tutti Frutti that had a pair of Fruit Salad chews on the top – love a bit of a retro vibe. All I’m going to say is that these are seriously quaffable… and probably lethal!! Having downed those, I’d got some Dutch courage and swaggered up to the interactive dartboard and His Nibs and I got stuck in to the ‘Robin Hood’ game; well, when in the city of legends, it’s gotta be done. I’ll gloss over the result of that game (let’s just say the female game was not strong, ladies). However, I was determined not to be out-done, so I selected the classic ‘Bulls’ Eye’ game – everyone of a certain age loves a bit o’ bully, no?! Thanks to the bonus wedges of round 2, I managed to score a whopping 1177 points – get iiiiiiiiiiiin. Trounced you was, Man Bird LOL.
Being a winner is thirsty work, so off to the bar we trotted to sample more Candy Store treats: Blue Razz for me (with mini bag of Haribo), and Double Bubble for His Maj: this cocktail came topped with mini marshmallows to contrast with the bubble-gum pink tone of the drink. As with the previous ones, these beauties slipped down way too easily! Those who are the designated drivers can indulge in a fab range of mocktails, so no-one feels left out. All the alcoholic cocktails from the Candy Shop are priced at £9.50….but… Lost City Adventure Golf has its ‘Happy Hour’ every day between 5-8pm and you can get 2-4-£10 on all cocktails, £2.50 for a house pint, and £3 on house spirits.
The Man and I loved the snazzy graphics on the interactive Darts boards; they’re bright and eye-catching, and the vast variety of games means that there’s plenty to go at. Pricing for the Interactive Darts is £8 per person, per hour which, for the amount of fun to be had, is perfectly fair. One thing to note: under 18s must be accompanied.
We loved it and can’t wait to go back – thanks for a fab evening, Katie and Finley. To book, ring 0115 9859455; the Nottingham venue is open Mon-Sat 10am-11pm, and 10am-10pm on Sunday. You can also visit the website www.lostcityadventuregolf.com and add /Nottingham to discover more details and offers. Lost City also have sites in Hull and 2 in Belfast in Northern Ireland.
